Bird & Buffalo is a Jackson Hole – based creative studio by artist Courtney Leavell.

I’ve always been drawn to making things — long before I knew what to call it. Growing up, my sketches found their way onto bedroom walls, notebooks, and the margins of just about anything within reach. That instinct followed me into college, where I studied interior design and began developing the illustrative style that now defines my work. After graduating, I moved to New York City for an interior design internship that turned into a full-time role. It was a time of growth, inspiration, and learning—though I didn’t fully realize just how much until later.

Eventually, I felt the pull back West and returned to Jackson, where the landscape and lifestyle continue to shape my creative perspective. These days, my work lives somewhere between art and design. I’m still rearranging spaces, collecting unique vintage pieces, and constantly sketching—always chasing that balance of personal, thoughtful, and detail-driven work. It’s a bit of a nonstop brainstorm over here.

I primarily work with pen, marker, and colored pencil. A few years ago, I began translating my drawings into block prints — the buffalo being my very first, created for a greeting card. Since then, I’ve returned to my roots with pen and paper while expanding into custom wedding stationery, where I can bring illustration and storytelling together in a meaningful way. I’m always exploring new ideas, looking for ways to evolve and weave different parts of my creative process into something new.

Thank you for being here and interested in my work!
